Outstanding art students from AHS have been recommended for entry into the prestigious National Scholastic Competition.
The competition includes entries from artists of a variety of mediums, including photography, painting, drawing, and writing. Once entered, artists compete at the state and national level and have a chance to win a gold key, silver key, or an honorable mention.
Ms. Frisk, a photography teacher at AHS who has some students in the competition, revealed that she recommends students who are “thinking outside the box, and producing art that is excellent technically”. Ms. Frisk explained that contests such as the National Scholastic Competition compels students to give their work official titles and explain the ideas behind what they’ve created.
In addition to the aforementioned benefits, Frisk also said, “It gives them a chance to see art from other students outside of the classroom.” Frisk also wished to ensure that the competition not be underestimated; she promoted the merit of the program saying “the scholastic competition is a long standing opportunity for young artists and it looks good on resumes”.
When asked what her favorite thing about the experience was, she said “That students get to share their art with friends and have their work on display.”
