You may have seen signs all around the school about helping the environment. All these signs are created by the Environmental Club. The Environmental Club is focused on creating awareness in the school about the damage in the environment and how students can help.
“If you can spend time scrolling through Instagram and Twitter,” says Tarushi, Co-President of the club. “You can take 45 seconds out of your life to compost your half-eaten sandwich and recycle your water bottle.”
The goal of the environmental club this year has been to help the school become more environmentally friendly and have students become more aware of the impact they have on the environment. The club has been at the school for quite a few years and Abi, another Co-President, believes it’s an excellent club and has a great purpose.
“We have a great deal of students in the school, if everyone composted their lunch it would have a huge impact on the environment.” says Abi.
The club is currently working on selling tumblers. The sale will begin in the month of May, and they are blue with yellow writing that says Andover. The club is selling them for $7 and once you purchase the cup you will also be eligible for a series of discounts from Starbucks, Perfectos, Dunkin Donuts, and a few other places. The money will potentially go towards buying water fountains that fill water bottles- similar to the fountains found at gyms such as Planet Fitness. Also, the club hopes to make a difference regarding students composting in the cafeteria.
“It’s about time we learn to appreciate and maintain our one and only home,” says Tarushi, “If we don’t take care of it, who will?”
