Mr. Gangi, a former English teacher who retired nearly two years ago and has been subbing in classrooms, will be coming back to teach on a more regular basis starting this week.
Gangi will be coming back to replace Ms. Percival temporarily, while she is on maternity leave. He will be teaching freshman like he used to at the high school, as well Masterpieces of British Literature, an elective for upperclassmen.
Gangi has been teaching at the high school and also middle schools for over thirty years. He retired around Halloween of 2011 and is now returning to room 272 starting March 10.
Ms. Whalen, the English program advisor, is one of the many people in the community that know him very well. She described him as “very witty with a sharp sense of humor.”
She also emphasized his outstanding teaching skills and relationships with his students. “He has very high expectations for his students and pushes them to achieve those standards,” Whalen said. “He knows the curriculum like the back of his hand.”
