A few years ago when rumors first started about a youth center, all of AHS was buzzing with news and students were not afraid to give support to a building that would be a great addition to their lives as teenagers of Andover High. When asking around the building of what students thought of the idea of a Youth Center there was an overwhelmingly positive response. An anonymous sophomore at AHS said, “It will be so cool to have a place just for us” and another AHS student claimed “It will be a great addition to Andover,” adding, “I hope it will be built soon!”
So how far exactly have we come to making this addition to the Andover community? Back in December 2011 the Town Meeting approved a 2 million dollar budget for the building of the Youth Center. The Andover Youth Foundation then gave and additional 2.2 million dollars for a total of 4.2 million dollars. The building is supposed to have a multipurpose space, gym, kitchen, and multiple offices and classrooms amassing up to approximately 20,000 square feet.
After going through multiple town meetings, budget approvals, and design changes, the Andover Youth Services has finally made the Youth Center a reality and construction has almost begun. Now all that remains is raising funds for the aforementioned multipurpose space and some interior spaces. The Youth Services need all the help they can get to raise their funds so if you would like to help donate money to the box located in the lobby.
