The Be the Change Team at AHS is hosting the school’s first Mix It Up Lunch on Friday, December 20. In an effort to improve the school’s current morale, students will have the opportunity to expand their social circles and meet new people, or rekindle friendships that may have faded over the years.

During all four lunches on Thursday, December 19, members of the Be the Change Team will be walking around the cafeteria handing out colored cards. On Friday, students are encouraged to sit at tables with the corresponding colors. After meeting the people at their table, participants will take part in an activity. Students will race to match current faculty members with a picture from when they were in high school. The first table to complete the challenge will receive a free smoothie. All four lunches will be extended.

Ms. Kirby, the head of the Be the Change Team, is very supportive of the idea of a Mix It Up Lunch being brought to AHS. “The Be the Change Team is sponsoring this,” she said. “And for folks who don’t know what that is, it’s a group of students who participated in Challenge Day. This is a program that is designed to try and really improve the social culture of our school, to make it a more accepting and safer feeling place. And these students who participated want to have a continued impact on that. So one of the events we are going to have is a Mix It Up Lunch.”

The Be the Change Team welcomes students from all grades. Members work to spread the messages learned from Challenge Day throughout the year.

“We are working on a number of different events and are going to try and bring different kinds of folks together,” said Mrs. Kirby.

The group meets on Wednesdays at 2:15 in room 370. If interested, please contact Mr. Rakouskas or Ms. Kirby. Don’t worry if you haven’t participated in Challenge Day before, all are welcome!
