Prior to 2012 the Andover High School football teame had had two straight successful seasons,  but each left a bitter taste in the Warriors’ mouths.

The 2010 season was marked by an 8-4 record, and the team’s first league title since 1975; however, that was not enough as the Warriors were pummeled by Everett in their first playoff match-up. The 2011 season was another successful campaign for the team; it finished up 7-4 but failed to advance to the playoffs.

Regardless of the fact that the team has not won a state championship since 1975, there is a different feeling about this Warriors team.

The team has won six straight games and is ranked 5th by the Boston Herald according to its most recent polling. The Warriors are coming off a 34 -6 victory over Somerville High School last Friday night.

Coach EJ Perry expressed that emotions are running high around the locker room and that the players are working their absolute hardest day in and day out to improve.  He made this clear about his team: “Every kid in the locker room is excited about the season and working hard to improve.”

Perry also cited the leadership of the senior class as a key motivating factor behind the team’s recent success. He said this about his senior captains, “I have loved the leadership of this team. The five captains — CJ Scarpa, Andreas Christopolus, Mark Zavrl, Will Heikkinen and Adam Ladd — have been marvelous at mentoring the young players and they have been on their game.”

The Warriors will be forced to put their 6-0 record up against MVC powerhouse Chelmsford on Friday night. This will be a true test to see how the Warriors hold up against a strong team.
