Girls Team Unable to Keep Winning Steak Going

The Andover Girls Track Team dropped to 6-1 on the season, after losing a closely contested battle to Lowell High School last Wednesday.

Standout Maggie Mullins won the two-mile commandingly and Meghan McPhee took the 1,000 meters. In addition, the sprinting, jumping and throwing teams racked up several points for the host Warriors. Andover had a chance to capture the meet in the last event, the 4 x 400 meter, but the team’s valiant effort came up just short.

The Warriors will have a chance to beat their conference rivals at the MVC championships on Feb. 10.

Boys Track Falls to Strong Lowell Squad

Lowell is regarded by many as the top team in the state; on Wednesday they showed Andover why most believe this. Lowell won a lopsided contest 55-31, dropping Andover’s record to 4-3 on the season.

Andover’s Ryan Cooney stayed strong by winning the mile, Will Klein was third in the mile, and Max Galat took second in the two-mile.

After the meet, Coach Peter Comeau told his athletes that he was proud and that the team exceeded his expectations.
